Nanny shares are illegal in California: "Nannies are generally license-exempt because they care for the children of only one family other than the nanny’s own family. Nannies who provide care for more than one family at the same time, in what are sometimes called “nanny-shares,” are not license-exempt, even if the care is not in the nanny’s home." – Child Care Law Center
A nanny or a nanny share is a “domestic employee” with all of the paperwork, payroll, workers comp, and liability on you. Worker injury – you pay. Injury to your child – you pay. Car accident – you pay. Licensed Educators have child care- specific insurance (or must disclose they don’t), which means your child is covered and it’s all paid for by your provider!
There is zero training required to be a nanny – anyone, regardless of experience or training, can claim to be a nanny. Licensed Educators have mandated trainings (e.g.: CPR, First Aid, health and safety, child abuse/mandated reporter), required vaccinations, required background checks, State regulations and oversight, etc.
Most importantly, if you signed a contract to hire a nanny share, your contract is likely invalidated by the illegality of the service you’ve contracted for. Hiring a Licensed Educator means you’re getting a real contract with real rules and provisions for both sides.
We urge families to hire a Licensed Educator, someone who is able to provide care and education within or outside of their own home, legally. The protections, education, and professionalism Licensed Educators provide are worth it, for both you and your child.
We are a licensed professional child care educator with over 35 years of experience. We have cared for singles, twins, and triplets. We have experience as a night nanny for twins with colic and GERD, a day nanny, and a date nights/special events nanny for evenings and special events.

Families enjoy taking advantage of our accumulated knowledge and experience, along with our flexibility, resourcefulness, and reasonable rates, for all of their childcare needs. I offer full-time (3+ days per week), part-time (1-2 days per week), and daily drop-in care, as well as evenings and weekends to accommodate your needs. We also have special needs and adopted child experience.
