Precious Treasures currently has openings for infants and toddlers. Won't you join us?
Licensing ratio requirements dictate space availability and unexpected openings can occur at any time. For licensing purposes, an "infant" is a child 0-23 months of age and a "toddler" is a child 2-5 years of age, not yet attending school.

Our regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 745A to 530P, but we are available 24/7 to accommodate almost every schedule.
Precious Treasures has many differences from "traditional family child care", the most obvious being we are the only child care we've found that travels with the children regularly. We all get into my minivan 3-4 times a week and go out to a variety of educational and recreational experiences, all specifically chosen for the children in my care at that time. We may leave for a few hours or for the day, but we do travel. That way, your child obtains life experiences versus just looking at the same four walls and the same "stuff" each day.
Please note, the day revolves around the children. If children are not able to go out and have a good time (teething, cranky, time change, etc.), if the weather isn't right (too hot, too cold, too wet, etc.), or if anything else comes up that makes it better for us to remain home, we do. At Precious Treasures, the health and safety of the children in our care is our number one priority.
Our minivan is outfitted with a full vehicle security system as well as all of the standard safety features (child safety locks on the doors, latch, etc.).
Please be sure you are all right with the Director driving your child before contacting Precious Treasures.
Please note -- for those wanting evening care (care after 530P), we will remain at the facility.
Precious Treasures cares for only five children at any one time, which means each child is at least 1/5 of our salary, so we focus on full-time care.
Part-time care is available, for those wishing to have 1-2 days a week. 3 or more days is considered full-time here.
Drop ins for a full days, evenings, and/or weekends are welcome, if we have availability.
We accept children from 0 through 5 years of age. Zero? Yes -- we've cared for children as young as 3 days!
Ratios are all Licensing based. Small Family Child Care Homes are allowed to have...
1 adult with 4 children 0-23 months
1 adult with 3 children 0-23 months and 3 children 2-5 years
1 adult with 3 children 0-23 months, 3 children 2-5 years, and 2 children of school age.
Precious Treasures will NEVER have 8 children here. We max ourselves out at 5 children -- the best ratio for adult to children -- giving each child plenty of individual time and attention while still providing a wonderful social group.
No.
As of March 2021, over 30% of childcare providers in Contra Costa County closed permanently due to COVID and Licensing regulations discouraged many providers from having/continuing infant programs. As of February 2024, almost half of all family child care educators closed their doors. Finding quality care for infants is almost impossible.
According to the National Survey of Early Care and Education (NSECE), there are one million paid providers caring for three million children from birth to age five in the home of the provider...data from 2017 shows 123,816 licensed family child care (providers)...that includes 86,309 small family childcare programs, which ACF defines as a solo person/no other workers. The number of licensed family childcare homes fell by 52% from 2005 to 2017 and by 22% from 2014 to 2017.
Studies show children should remain in childcare as long as possible because...
"...There is evidence that consistent and reliable caregiving supports early neurological development... Having the same family childcare provider for several years provides the opportunity for a responsive relationship between the infant or toddler and the adult caregiver. ...Family childcare provides children an opportunity to be cared for in smaller groups and to be cared for by a provider who is responsible for fewer children than in a center setting. These small group sizes facilitate the strengths of relationships and interactions." (Family Child Care Research & Data – National Association for Family Child Care (nafcc.org)
